Hospital doctor shadowing & global health experience programs.
Are you in Year 12 or 13 and thinking of applying for medicine? Our Sixth Form Special in Tanzania allows you to gain a full 2-weeks of clinical work experience during your Easter 2012 holidays. The timing of the project in April 2012 means its ideal for Year 13 students preparing for medical school or those in Year 12 wanting an introduction to clinical medicine.
Tanzania Sixth Form Special dates:
1st April – 13th April 2012
The placement price of just £1290 includes a fully-supervised hospital placement, clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation in our own students house, food, airport pickup in Tanzania, local orientations, 24/7 support from our teams in Tanzania and the UK and lots of help with preparations for your trip.
Once in Tanzania, you will spend weekdays shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work, both on wards and in the operating theatre (depending on your interests). The particular doctor you are assigned to each day is your mentor – he or she will speak fluent English and provide on-the-go teaching about the different cases you encounter. You will also undertake 6 clinical teaching sessions in the hospital during your stay, which is your chance to learn more about healthcare and to ask questions to the doctors too.
This intensive 2-week placement is ideal preparation for medical school for Year 13 students and an invaluable opportunity for Year 12 students to stand out on their applications too.
During the week you will focus on learning more about healthcare but there’s still plenty of time to explore the local area too with the help and guidance of our staff teams and you can also help out in the local orphanage too during the week. The middle weekend is an ideal opportunity for you to undertake a safari in Ruaha National Park which is the perfect way to compliement your Easter break with us in Tanzania!
April is quite a low season for the travel industry so flights to Tanzania are relatively cheap, especially from the UK. Students should plan to arrive into Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and we can give you help in booking your flight should you wish with the help of our travel partner. You can read more about our Tanzania placement by clicking here. Please be aware that places are limited and our special projects usually book up fast.
