Exams can be tough and grueling and can leave you completely stressed and exhausted. However, you cannot afford to stop – you need to keep pushing yourself. The good news is, with a clear study schedule and a well thought out plan in place, things can suddenly seem much more manageable.
The most important thing to realize about revision is that it is an individualized process. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. This is because every student comes at revision with different sets of knowledge and understanding. Moreover, every student responds differently to the stress of revision and the exam period.
To identify your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to revision, you need to consider how much you already know, what time and which place suits you best for studying and which are the factors that act as the biggest stumbling blocks. With this information you can devise a suitable revision strategy for you.
You may find that at different stages your preferences change. Whereas you liked studying in a group in the early revision days, as the exams approach you may find that it is beginning to distract you and you concentrate better when you study alone in silence. The important thing is to recognize this and accordingly match the type of revision with your personal preference so that you are able to get the most out of the time spent.
With so much to do and with your whole future hanging on how you fare in the exams, it is easy to get overwhelmed. The task suddenly seems too big, the time seems too short and you could find yourself slipping into the mindset that no matter what you do you are not going to succeed.
The key is to realize that examinations, and the revision period leading up to it inevitably involve a whole of stress and revision. Accept this, monitor your stress, identify your personal revision preferences so that you can devise a plan to make this period work for you and not against you.
