Spend your February half term wisely!

Join us for a week of hospital work experience in Tanzania and make your personal statement shine. In the process, you’ll learn about global healthcare and get a real insight into your future career.

Don’t miss out! Pick the dates that fit in best with your school holiday:

You’ll spend at least 23 hours shadowing experienced doctors on ward rounds and in surgery at our partner hospitals. From observing surgical procedures to the treatment of tropical diseases such as malaria, this experience will really open your eyes to healthcare in the developing world. You can choose to spend time in the following departments, depending on your interests: paediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, internal medicine, and many more! You will be assigned to a knowledgeable healthcare professional, who will act as your mentor, explaining each case to you in depth, and answering any questions that you might have.

Student taking a woman's blood pressure in Tanzania.Observing surgery was one of the most incredible experiences I had in Tanzania. It was amazing to see inside the human body and to see how operations are done in Africa. It was also eye-opening going on ward rounds and seeing patients with diseases such as malaria that would not normally be seen in the UK.” Helen Jones, 17, on her recent trip to Tanzania.

As well as gaining clinical experience by the bucket load, you’ll benefit from attending Global Health Tutorials several times a week, where you’ll learn about the economic, social and cultural factors behind what you see in the hospital each day.

When you’re not in the hospital, you could find yourself on a wildlife safari in some of Tanzania’s finest national parks, horseback riding through in the mountains or shopping at local Masaai craft market. You’ll live in one of our exclusive Gap Medics houses; designed to create a safe and social environment, you’ll be sureStrike a pose at the top of Gangilonga Rock! to meet friends of a similar age from all over the world. Enjoy hanging out in large communal areas, and sunbathing in our tropical gardens. A dedicated staff team will be on hand to help you with anything you need – from cooking you delicious meals to organising activities for you and your fellow housemates!

“I think the best thing about the trip was the great work placements – and of course the amazing people I met.”
