Your application is literally the very first impression that your prospective employers will have of you, which underscores the importance of putting together an application that is absolutely impeccable and error-free. Yet, despite knowing its importance, several healthcare employers have admitted that they often see the same mistakes time and time again in job applications and very often, these mistakes may have cost a potential applicant the job that they had applied for. We’ve put together some of the most common job application mistakes that recruiters see, so you know what you should avoid.


Submitting a resume instead of filling in the application form

These days the majority of jobs are being advertised online and many healthcare establishments provide an online application that they require you to fill out. Despite this, many applicants ignore the form and instead send in their generic resume that they had prepared to be sent out as applications. The whole point of a recruiter having a specific application is because they want you to apply in that particular format. No organisation is interested in hiring someone who cannot even be bothered to comply with their requirements. Chances are your resume will not even be read and will just end up in the trash bin.


Submitting an incomplete application

Some job posts are very specific about the information they would like included in your application. What’s more, every job post may ask for different information. Some may ask for details about your previous employment including the phone number of your immediate supervisor whereas another advertisement may ask for different information altogether. Take time to go through all the questions asked and make sure your application has all of the required information before you submit it.


Not following directions properly

A lot of people do not take the time to read all the fine print provided by recruiters. By actually going through all the directions they have given, you may just have an advantage over half the other applicants. These days, most companies ask applicants to send in your applications by email. If you decide that you prefer to do things the good old-fashioned way and send in your application by traditional mail instead, you may find that the company is not ready to accommodate your whims. If you cannot follow simple instructions at this stage, the company may not be too enthusiastic about having you on their staff. 


Not proofreading your application

It’s really surprising how many applicants do not proofread their application before they send it in. An application could have grammatical errors, spelling mistakes or even some wrong information that you overlooked. The importance of proofreading your application before submitting it cannot be over-emphasised. It would be a shame to lose out on a job just because of a mistake that could easily be corrected.

All of these mistakes can make the difference in whether you get the job or not. The good news is, most of these mistakes are easy to rectify. With a little time and effort, you can avoid all of these common mistakes and submit a winning application that will get you the healthcare job you desire.
