Australia has earned an impressive reputation for its high standards in medical education, with several schools earning enviable placements in the list of ‘Top 50 Medical Schools In The World’. While it does help to know which are the top medical schools in the country and their world rankings, it does not mean you should limit your choices to only these few select establishments. All of the medical schools in Australia offer world-class education and facilities and the best school for you may be one that does not feature in this list, so keep your options open.

Here are some of the top medical schools in Australia in the undergraduate and post-graduate categories.

The University of Melbourne

Ranked 9th in the world’s top medical schools, The University of Melbourne is also the oldest medical school in Australia and one of the few to offer a Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Melbourne Medical school is reputed for its outstanding classroom and practical training in health, research, practice and policy and offers students both urban as well as rural practical experience. Widely considered as ‘the ultimate place to study medicine in Australia’, admission to the school is highly competitive with a very high entry barrier.

The University of Sydney

The University of Sydney is ranked 17th in the QS World University Rankings for medical schools. This school also offers a 4-year Doctor of Medicine program. Monash University Medical School

Ranked 29th in the top medical schools in the world, the Monash University Medical School offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in medicine. The University of Queensland

Griffith University Medical School

Located on the Gold Coast, Griffith University’s graduate-level medical school is innovative in that students learn and study in small-group, hands-on, problem-based clinical environments.
