Shadowing a DoctorSeptember 3, 2012
It’s time for the return of our October half term 2012 and February half term 2013 Medical Work Experience programme running over the October and February half term holidays. Each year Gap Medics offers a series of programmes aimed at students in years 12 and 13 who are considering or applying to university courses in healthcare.
There are over 1200 students from the UK between years 11-13 who are undertaking a hospital work experience placement this year with Gap Medics, representing over 350 UK schools and we are offering you the chance to join them by travelling for a 1-week period to Tanzania for some unforgetable Hospital work experience.
The Sixth Form Special programmes are a week long and as schools have different October and February half-term holidays, students should simply select the dates that coincide with your schools October or February half-term dates:
14th October – 20th October 2012
21st October – 27th October 2012
28th October – 3rd November 2012
10th February – 16th February 2013
17th February – 23rd February 2013
The timing of our October Half Term and February 2013 half term projects is ideal for current Year 12 students to prepare themselves for med school applications and for Year 13 students who will have just applied for Medical school entry in 2013 and have upcoming interviews.
Gap Medics Medicine Work experience programmes are designed to combine learning about life as a doctor with an unforgettable travel experience too and our October and February Sixth Form Special takes place in Tanzania. Students all live together in our large Gap Medics houses and are supported by an extensive staff team when they are away with us too.
Once in Tanzania, you will spend five days shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work, both on wards and in the operating theatre (depending on your exact placement). The particular doctor you are assigned to each day is your mentor – he or she will speak fluent English and provide on-the-go teaching about the different cases you encounter. You will also undertake 3 clinical teaching sessions in the hospital during the week, which is your chance to learn more about healthcare and to ask questions to the doctors too.
This intensive 1-week placement is ideal preparation for medical school and an invaluable opportunity to stand out on your applications too.
The placement price of just £1190 includes a fully-supervised hospital placement, clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation in our own Gap Medics house, food, airport pickup in Tanzania, local orientations, 24/7 support from our teams in Tanzania and the UK and lots of help with preparations for your trip.
During the week you will focus on learning more about healthcare but there’s still plenty of time to explore the local area too with the help and guidance of our staff teams and you can also help out in the local orphanage too during the week. The journey back to the airport is an ideal opportunity for you to undertake a safari in Mikumi National Park which is the perfect way to end an amazing adventure with us in Tanzania!
October and February are low seasons for the travel industry so flights to Tanzania are relatively cheap, especially from the UK. Please be aware that places are limited and our special projects usually book up fast. Book now, give us a call on 0191 230 8080 or email email@example.com.
