This Sixth Form Special programme is a week long and as schools have different February half-term holidays, students should simply select the dates that coincide with your schools half-term dates:
10th February – 16th February 2013
17th February – 23rd February 2013
Taking place in the wonderful setting of Liberec in The Czech Republic, students spend 5 days shadowing highly skilled doctors on their dailly rounds in a fully supported hospital work experience placement. Liberec is situated in the north of The Cezch Republic, around 1 hour from prague very close to the German border. It is surrounded with great skiing opportunities nearby and it’s a city peppered with stunning historic buildings and known for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
The placement price of just £790 includes a fully-supervised hospital placement, clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation in our own students house, food, airport pickup in The Czech Republic, local orientations, 24/7 support from our teams in The Czech Republic and the UK and lots of help with preparations for your trip too.
Once in The Czech Republic, you will spend weekdays shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work, both on wards and in the operating theatre (depending on your interests). The particular doctor you are assigned to each day is your mentor – he or she will speak fluent English and provide on-the-go teaching about the different cases you encounter. You will also undertake 3 clinical teaching sessions in the hospital during your stay, which is your chance to learn more about healthcare and to ask questions to the doctors too.
This intensive 1-week placement is ideal preparation for medical school for Year 13 students and an invaluable opportunity for Years 11 and 12 students to stand out on their UCAS applications too.
During the week students will focus on learning more about healthcare but there’s still plenty of time to explore the local area too with the help and guidance of our staff teams.
February a low season for the travel industry so flights to The Czech Republic are very cheap, especially from the UK. Students should plan to arrive into Prague and we can give you help in booking your flight should you wish with the help of our travel partner. Flights are available from the UK for less than £100 return and students should look to arrive into Prague anytime on a Sunday and depart anytime on a Saturday. After you arrive you and all the other students on placement will be transported to our base in Liberec to the Gap Medics house to begin your placement.
