Shadowing a DoctorJanuary 24, 2013
This Easter holiday Gap Medics has an exciting opportunity for you to spend time gaining medical work experience in The Czech Republic. Your revision won’t suffer either with our private study areas enabling you to revise for exams with other like-minded students during your stay too.
The programme is for students who are aged 16 years or older in March 2013 and in years 11-13 at school who are considering applying for a career in healthcare.
The programme is a one-week experience and as schools have different Easter holidays, you should simply select the dates that coincide with your schools Easter dates:
- 24th March – 30th March 2013
- 31st March – 6th April 2013
- 7th April – 13th April 2013
Taking place in the wonderful setting of Liberec in The Czech Republic, students spend 5 days shadowing highly skilled doctors on their daily rounds on a fully supported hospital work experience placement. Students all live together in our Gap Medics house, which can sleep 36 students and are fully supported by a full time staff team when you are on placement. Liberec is situated in the north of The Cezch Republic, around 1 hour from prague very close to the German border. It is surrounded with great skiing opportunities nearby and it’s a city peppered with stunning historic buildings and known for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Easter is an important time in every student’s calendar for GCSE, AS and A2 revision and our 1-week Easter hospital work experience courses will allow you to gain some invaluable hospital work experience, meet students interested in medicine from all over the world and revise for your exams in the comfort of the Gap Medics house in Liberec.
This placement is ideal preparation for med school for Year 13 students and an invaluable opportunity for Years 11 and 12 students to stand out on their UCAS applications too.
The placement price of just £990 includes a fully-supervised hospital placement, clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation in our own students house, food, airport pickup in The Czech Republic, local orientations, 24/7 support from our teams in The Czech Republic and the UK and lots of help with preparations for your trip too.
Once in The Czech Republic, you will spend weekdays shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work, both on wards and in the operating theatre (depending on your interests). The particular doctor you are assigned to each day is your mentor – he or she will speak fluent English and provide on-the-go teaching about the different cases you encounter. You will also undertake 3 clinical teaching sessions in the hospital during your stay, which is your chance to learn more about healthcare and to ask questions to the doctors too.
During the week students will focus on learning more about healthcare but there’s still plenty of time to explore the local area too with the help and guidance of our staff teams.
Easter is a relatively low season for the travel industry so flights to The Czech Republic are very cheap, especially from the UK. Students should plan to arrive into Prague and we can give you help in booking your flight should you wish with the help of our travel partner. Flights are available from the UK for less than £100 return and students should look to arrive into Prague anytime on a Sunday and depart anytime on a Saturday. After you arrive you and all the other students on placement will be transported to our base in Liberec to the Gap Medics house to begin your placement.
