February 14, 2013

The annual Gap Medics Australian student special starts on the 5th of January 2014.

This is an amazing opportunity for students aged 16+ to travel internationally and gain educational work experience in a variety of medical fields in Tanzania or Thailand.

The program is suited to students in the final years of school, those on a gap year and university undergraduate students preparing for or considering medical school.

If you are just thinking about the possibility of studying medicine in the near future or have been accepted to medical school and want to get some real world experience of your subject then joining Gap Medics is absolutely the right choice!

Following the great success of the summer 2013 program we are inviting along Australian students on 5th January 2014 from schools and universities across the country for a program of 2 to 4 week work experience placements where students will learn about life and work in international hospitals.

Not only will completing a Gap Medics placement provide students with an unrivalled insight into life as a medical professional offering a great advantage in further studies and applications to medical school but it will also provide a unique opportunity for each individual’s personal and professional development.

Students will observe and experience practical healthcare in a working hospital environment; a combination of shadowing medical professionals at work, observing procedures and surgeries taking place, assisting on ward rounds, joining regular clinical tuition seminars and gaining real and academically relevant experience in a whole array of healthcare areas on a program which is safe, supported and fully managed with the age and academic requirements of Gap Medics students in mind.

Evenings and weekends are fun free time for you to relax, get to know your fellow students and enjoy the facilities at the Gap Medics house which is a perfect base for the trip. Weekends will also be your time to explore the local culture along with your new friends; you could go elephant trekking in the jungles of northern Thailand and explore the exotic markets or Buddhist temples. In Tanzania you could join an amazing safari trek out into the breath taking Ruaha national park or spend time getting to know the local Maasai people.

Gap Medics offers an intensive and interactive program of real hospital experience; the educational benefits of which are unrivalled and would be almost impossible to gain at home in Australia. Gap Medics will provide a thorough educational insight into the work of doctors in international hospitals, increasing clinical knowledge and developing confidence and independence in preparation for the next step towards a medical career!
