About Student Placements, Scholarships, Education & Training With The RFDSNovember 27, 2013
The Royal Flying Doctor Service offers a very popular student placement program that covers a wide variety of occupations in diverse locations. During these placements, every effort is made to provide students with valuable insights and experiences that will help broaden their knowledge and develop and refine their inherent skills. The placements allow students to learn and work alongside highly skilled and experienced professionals in their chosen field. Depending on their education and interests, students are able to specialise in various specialties such as indigenous health and remote primate health care.
The primary aim of the student placement program is to get students fully prepared for their entry into the workforce. The RFDS places high value on the mutual benefits associated with student placements and in return for all the benefits and incentives, they expect students to be eager to learn, committed and interested in developing their career with the RFDS.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service offers generous scholarships in numerous occupational areas and various locations. These scholarships are given with the aim of helping medical professionals who wish to work for the RFDS and need to obtain the necessary qualifications and skills. Places are in high demand because they offer an unrivalled opportunity to pursue further education and also embark on a rewarding career with the RFDS.
In an effort to enable individuals across all socio-economic backgrounds to gain employment with the service, the scholarship funding is used as financial assistance towards paying for a particular course to be completed within a specific timeframe. All scholarship recipients are also then employed by the RFDS.
Education & Training
In an ongoing effort to reduce the shortage of medical practitioners in remote and rural areas in Australia, the RFDS supports the education and training of medical, nursing and allied health students and strongly promotes the inclusion of Indigenous health, rural and remote issues and multi-disciplinary practice in health curricula across medical schools in Australia. In addition they also provide student placements under set agreements with several universities. The RFDS also lends its support to all universities and organisations that are involved in the education and training of students and other health professionals.
Staff Professional Development
The RFDS is also strongly committed to the ongoing professional development of staff and supports employees to attend approved study leave activities in accordance with relevant professional requirements.
The RFDS also provides duly qualified Registered Nurses with an exclusive opportunity to access a limited amount of Midwifery Scholarships.
To qualify for a midwifery scholarship, you should meet the following criteria:
- Be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
- Be a registered general nurse with a AHPRA registration
- Have significant relevant postgraduate nursing experience
- Have an emergency nursing or Critical Care Certification
This is a great opportunity for anyone who has always dreamed of working for Australia’s famed aeromedical health service but did not earlier meet the requirements to be endorsed as a Flight Nurse/Midwife. These Scholarships are available across Australia and aim to provide financial support to those Nurses who wish to gain this important qualification.
