Graduation is such a special opportunity to pause and celebrate a med student’s great achievements before they move onto the next stage of their career. Whether a family member or friend, you want to help them remember this moment – but it’s hard to find the perfect gift. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of some of our top choices!
When you’ve studied for so long, it’s great to have a visual reminder of all your achievements. A poster is a perfect way to celebrate your graduate’s success (and it’s easy to put up even in a small rented room). You can get this Gold Foil Gray’s Anatomy print here.
Every newly qualified physician is going to need a sturdy stethoscope to get them through their residency. You may prefer to buy them a voucher if you aren’t sure what they’re specialising in (for instance, trainee cardiologists might like something more detailed than an ER doctor).
Rigorous hand washing is important for all health professionals but has the annoying side effect of leaving you with dry, cracked hands. A really good hand cream will counteract this as well as relaxing your tired medic’s hands after a long day on the wards.
Travel mug
Getting your new medic friend a lovely mug will help them to smile even when they’re sipping a lukewarm cuppa they desperately wish was a hot one. This mug is for sale here.
As a sweet little gift for a friend on their graduation, buy them a notepad or pack of notepads that gives a nod towards their new profession. These ones are available here.
For something that’s a bit more substantial, your new medic friend can log all of their amazing achievements in a journal like this. It will carve out some time every day for them to reflect on how brilliantly they’re doing.
To a health professional, medicine is beautiful – but it might not be to your housemates! Thankfully there is plenty of art available that touches on someone’s new medical skills without being a giant skeleton in the corner of the room. This one, for instance, is a subtle print of the vocal cords.
Graduation is a celebration of your fantastic time at university, but unfortunately, the hard work is far from over. Meanwhile, give the gift of relaxation with a spa or pamper day at a local hotel or resort.
Coffee is going to become the elixir of life when you’re starting out in the world of healthcare, but that’s no excuse to live on cheap hospital-style coffee at home. Treat your graduate to a coffee subscription they will enjoy 24/7.
Last but definitely not least, health professionals spend a huge amount of time on their feet (nurses walk approximately 5 miles per shift!). To do so comfortably and safely, they need to invest in a decent pair of shoes. Why not take them on a shopping spree?
Whatever you pick, your friend or family member will be truly honoured to share their special day with you.
Congratulations to all med school graduates!
