Shadow a doctor
Our two-week program in the Dominican Republic provides 40 hours of doctor shadowing on hospital frontlines. You will be in a small group of no more than four students, mentored throughout by an English and Spanish-speaking medical doctor.
Our famous Global Pre-Meds guesthouse will be your sanctuary throughout your program. Our dedicated support staff will take care of all of your needs. We are responsible for your transportation to and from the hospital. And your delicious, locally-sourced meals are prepared by our full time in-house chef for your enjoyment. Your job is to focus on the experience!
Amplify your impact
Your mentoring doctor and the hospital are paid directly from your program fee, which helps increase access to healthcare for the local community. The hospitals are able to purchase better equipment, and the excellent doctors who work there are able to sustain themselves and focus their time. We also offer you the chance to get involved with our weekly volunteer programs. Sometimes we partner with local organizations to visit orphanages or do beach clean ups.
This is one of our COVID-resilient programs, meaning it is able to run safely even during the pandemic thanks to our extensive protection measures. If you are unable to travel on your intended dates, we will transfer you to a later session of your choice free of charge – allowing you to apply now with confidence.
Choose your age group
Our Doctor Shadowing program has separate dedicated sessions for high school students aged 16-18 and over 18s.
The content of the program is the same for all sessions, but those for high school provide an age-appropriate level of support with students supervised by our own staff 24 hours a day throughout the program.
Students aged 18 can choose to join a session with either age group.
